Leticia Mosqueda and New York’s 26.2 Miles—Reflection on the Marathon

Thousands of people gathered to cheer on friends and family who embarked on the daring challenge of completing a 26.2 mile run through all five boroughs of New York City on Sunday, Nov. 6. One face among all the onlookers from this year's race is one that many students of The King's College would recognize — Leticia Mosqueda. Mosqueda ran in the New York City Marathon in 2013, 2017 and 2019.

Professor Clemente Lisi Launches New Book on the World Cup

Professor Clemente Lisi recently wrote a book titled “The FIFA World Cup: A History of the Planet's Biggest Sporting Event.” The book was released on Oct. 12, one month before the official launch of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar on November 20. Sports World Takes a Stance Against Russian Invasion

FIFA and UEFA announced their decision on Feb. 28 to ban Russia and the country’s pro teams from competing in world competitions, including the 2022 World Cup, Champions League and Europa League. The Champions League final was originally going to be played in St. Petersburg but has since been switched to Paris. These outcomes all stem from Russia’s invasion of neighboring Ukraine.

He’s been the talk of the NHL for the past month. He’s arguably one of the most hated players in the league for his troubled past and tendency to rack up frustrating penalties. Evander Kane, former first round pick and San Jose Sharks star left wing, has had more than his fair share of controversy in his history. Earlier this year, he was suspended 21 games for forging and falsifying a vaccine card.

You Can’t Spell Sports without Sports Betting

If a young generation of sports fans are indirectly told by their news sources that sports betting is an exciting and fun medium for making possible large gains, they have no other reason to question such messaging. Since a large majority of people who follow these accounts are between the ages 16 and 24 — ages at which most are not even allowed to bet — there's a much higher likelihood that this constant promotion will lead to potential gambling addictions in these younger sports fans.

NWSL Makes 2021 Debut with Challenge Cup

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) returned to play in 2021 with the second year of the NWSL Challenge Cup, a 21-game tournament featuring all 10 league teams.

The NWSL Challenge Cup debuted last year as a product of the COVID-19 pandemic. After having to consistently delay their regular-season games, the league created a tournament to encourage playing while staying safe. Last July, Houston Dash took home the title after previously not making playoffs in their seven-year tenure in the league.

King's Cancels Basketball Season for Spring 2021 Semester

The King’s College Athletic Department made the decision to cancel the Spring 2021 men’s and women’s basketball season on Wednesday, Dec. 16.

King’s Athletic Director, Bryan Finley said, “The College administration and the athletic department held out hope as long as possible that some form of basketball season could be held. However, two factors led to the decision to cancel.”
